Yes, I do agree with you. I did not enjoy The Honjin Murders at all. The most recent Yokomizo isn't bad though, it's called The Little Sparrow Murders. I LOVED Ayatsuji's The Decagon House Murders. I just started the new one (The Labyrinth House Murders). I didn't mind The Tattoo Murders by Akimitsu Takagi. My forever favourite will be Malice by Higashino :) I was going through your archives looking for a post on Honkaku. Now I shall go back and muddle through the rest!

Will try Decagon House. I think it's on my Kindle but (as you will discover if you read my posts), I have a soft corner for British detective fiction. Just starting Anthony Horowitz's Marble Hall Murders tonight. I prefer this series featuring Susan Ryeland over the more popular Hawthorne series. Have you read them?

Noooo, I got mixed reviews about Horowitz so I never started the series. I'm not even sure where to start though. Would love a recommendation! Yes, I realised a few posts into your archive! I'm so glad I found your Substack!

Horowitz is currently writing two detective series. One featuring DI Hawthorne and one with book editor Susan Leyland. The former started out damn well with The Word is Murder and The Sentence is Death. But books 3 and 4 aren't as good in my view. What's interesting about this series is that Horowitz is himself a character working with Hawthorne to write books based on cases the DI solves. The Susan Ryeland series is also interesting. It's only at 3 books so far, but each book has another full book inside. So effectively, we are at 6? I enjoyed these very much. And on the whole, love that Anthony Horowitz is so experimental while still doing classic clues.

Ooh! Any recommendations? I love well-clued classic detection and procedurals. So a big fan of Keigo Higashino. But did not take to Seishi Yokomizo; felt it was more drama than plot.
