I enjoyed this immensely. The categorization of different arcs was spot on, and the examples have been added to my To Read/To Watch list :). My favourite is the Grow Along with Me category. I find the Born Complete category to sometimes get monotonous (ex. Father Brown/Sister Boniface mysteries (TV versions)). And the the few crumbs of backstory/trauma constrained to that episode, only for it to be completely forgotten further down the line. The Trauma and Everyone Else Sucks categories get a bit too depressing for me, having been inducted into this genre by cozy Agatha Christie mysteries. Psych, Mentalist and Castle are still comfort watches for me, so loved the analysis. Which also reminded me of my very first intro to this genre in the TV setting, the incomparable (slighted biased) Remington Steele. From the story, to the characterization, pacing and charm of the two leads - truly chef's kiss! Another couple of old favourites for me are Foyle's Law (I'd say Category #1.5) and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (Category #1). This was great fun. Looking forward to reading more!

Late to the party but this was a wonderful read! Love the juxtaposition of detective fiction with Contemporary TV. I loved the Mentalist. Looking forward to watching Ludwig! Keep em coming Gowri and Sreeram!
